Mai Khao Beach

Surrounding of mai khao

I’m excited to introduce you to one of Phuket’s best-kept secrets: Mai Khao Beach. If you're looking for a peaceful spot to relax away from the crowds, enjoy stunning sunsets, and immerse yourself in nature, this beach is the perfect destination!

Natural Features of Mai Khao Beach

Mai Khao Beach stretches for an impressive 11 kilometers, making it the longest beach on the island. The sand here is coarse, and the water deepens quickly. Be mindful of the strong waves, especially during the monsoon season, so it's important to stay cautious when swimming.

Sirinat National Park

This beautiful beach is part of Sirinat National Park, a protected area that helps preserve the natural beauty of the coastline. It’s surrounded by casuarina pine trees and coastal vegetation, creating a peaceful and untouched environment. One of the unique highlights of Mai Khao Beach is that it is a nesting ground for sea turtles, which come to lay their eggs between November and February.

Relax and Take a Stroll

With its long stretch of coastline and relatively few visitors, Mai Khao is perfect for leisurely walks, beach jogging, and simply unwinding in a peaceful setting.

Observe the Sea Turtles

During the nesting season, from November to February, you may be lucky enough to witness sea turtles laying their eggs or see baby turtles making their way to the ocean. It’s a unique and magical experience to observe.

Plane Spotting

One of the most exciting activities at Mai Khao is watching planes land and take off from Phuket International Airport, which is just a short distance from the southern end of the beach. This spot offers excellent photo opportunities for aviation enthusiasts.

Water Sports

While water sports infrastructure is limited, you can still enjoy activities like kayaking and paddleboarding in the calm waters. If you like Water Parks with slides, a wave big pool, 335 meters long lazy river, kid's aqua play and much more, Spalsh Jungle Water Park is perfect for you.

Escape the Crowds

Mai Khao Beach is ideal for those looking to escape the busier beaches of Phuket. Here, you can enjoy peace and tranquility without the hustle and bustle of tourists.

Snorkeling

(Not Recommended)

The sandy seabed at Mai Khao Beach is not suitable for snorkeling, so it's not a prime spot for underwater exploration.

Visit Wat Mai Khao Temple

Located close to the Ban Thai Lue cafe, the Wat Mai Khao temple shouldn't be missed. The temple itself is tucked away from the road. It doesn’t have any particular architectural interest, but it hides a little treasure: a small bird sanctuary hidden in the park behind it. Surrounded by a protective wall, a small lake with trees growing in the water is the shelter for many white birds, probably cattle egrets. You can drive through the land and around the lake, but it is a nice gesture to stop and make a small donation. It is one of two temples that Luang Pu Tes built (the other is Wat Lang San, which is in the city). Currently, Phra Ajahn Daeng is the abbot. In the chapel, there are relics of the parents and teachers.

Soi dog foundation

Soi Dog Foundation was established in 2003 in Phuket, to help the street dogs and cats who had no-one else to care for them. You can visit the foundation or even volunteer. Soi Dog welcomes volunteers from all over the world. Volunteers play a hugely important role in the socialisation of the animals in our care, in preparation of them becoming adoptable.
